More than twice as many Americans went online for health information than in 2000. But the surprise is that the Web is rarely the only resource. Most people use online research to supplement, not replace, advice delivered by a health professional—and by family and friends. “Don’t count out Doctor Mom,” says Pew Associate Director Susannah Fox, who wrote the June report.

Digital Doctors in the media

Posted by: In: e health

Digital Doctors are nothing new really. The ability to message and communicate with patients securely has been around for years, but really has not matured. There are obvious advantages to this, and I think just as obvious complications. I think people in general will try and avoid an in person visit. I think maturation of this will come with telemedicine and state level standards around compliance and insurance.

iPhone Apps for e-health

Posted by: In: e health

We are now in the next generation of iPhone Apps with the release of 3.0 software. What will this bring for e-health? The first wave was more or less reference type applications likeĀ Epocrates, ADAM. These are very nice apps, but not show stopping life changing applications by any event.

I think the real power of iphone application development will start to happen when service oriented architecture within institutionally specific IT departments starts to integrate with iphone app development.

The next generation should yield interactive apps that tie into institutional systems or messaging.

Here are two great examples of next generation e-health apps — i look forward to seeing application development for iphones evolve into integrated devices.
